Was watching a vid on here earlier, about sign language, and it got me to thinking about the time I was in Germany, visiting a friend. We were on the train, going to Austria for the day, and there was this homeless man who sat one seat from us. Now, I know German, passably well but not fluent. I can get by and I know sign language barely...again, I know enough to get by since one of my best friends was deaf growing up. But this guy, moved over and started up a 'conversation' with me and my friend. I look back and find it sorta funny, because, like I said, I know German and sign language only passably...yet I understood everything that man said to us, while my friend, who IS German and understands the language better then me, didn't. *laughs softly* I had to translate everything the homeless guy was saying to my friend. It was a good conversation, and he got off at the next stop, but I found it odd...that I understood what he was saying, while my friend who spoke his language, didn't.
Guess you got to learn to really watch
someone to get their meaning, to see what they say, not just with their words,
but their eyes and hands and body expressions as well.....and I am good at
that! 😃 That
was a good day!
Leah G.: Nice I also deal with foreign
language and sign language almost on a daily basis
Bex: I just find it funny, that my friend
didn't understand a word the guy was saying and she speaks the language....she
kept looking at me..."What is he saying?" and the guy is speaking
german and sign.
