Magic was a rare gift that only bloomed rare souls. Elves were naturally gifted in certain types of magic, depending on their bloodlines would determine what type of magic they would, perchance, be able to do.
Elrond,
Becca's father, was in line of the Eldar. Which meant, he and his twin brother,
who chose the path of a mortal, were descended from their Gods--or so goes the
stories. As such, Elrond's power was untapped, even at the age of 6000.
Elenna,
Becca's mother, was a hybrid. A mixture of elf and demon, for her mother,
Becca's grandmother had gotten mixed up in a deal with a demon or some such
thing---as the stories go. Hence Elenna had gifts that no mere elf should have
and in turn, passed them down to Becca.
Becca was
the only one of her kind after her mother died, and was left, at a young age
(far as elves are concerned), learning how to control not only her wolf shifts
but her magic as well.
Fate,
however, was a cruel Master, or a good friend depending on how you looked at
it; for some of the magic she possessed and knew she could do, worked only when
IT wanted to. In order to keep Becca from becoming to powerful, Fate hindered
her healing abilities. So she taught herself how to heal the human way. Using
medicine and herbs and the things that the Earth gives. Yet, sometimes, when in
dire need, that gift will flare up and heal when it is most needful, but it is
not something she can control.
It can be
maddening at times. To know that you can do something and yet not have it work
when you want it too. But life, is a forever learning phase...if she can not do
something one way, she will learn how to do it another.
