her early
morning run started off well enough. A crisp clear morning, with hardly a bite
in the air, the forest around her echoed with bird song and smells of other
animals. She went for a good long run, and then getting a drink at the lake
nearby, turned for home. She was checking her boundaries, when her fur went
puffy suddenly as she entered a small clearing. Something was wrong! She
sniffed the air but couldn't smell anything out of the ordinary, yet even the
birds had suddenly gone quiet. Her ears twisted and turned, trying to locate
any sound, but she heard nothing. Taking a few tentative steps forward, she
heard the snap of the spring and jumped clear of the net that swooshed up
beside her! Her hackles raised as human voices shouted all around her, baring
her fangs as one by one, they came out of the forest, surrounding her.
They
rattled chains at her, some had clubs a few even had nets which they shook,
trying to keep her attention divided.
"Here
wolf!" "No, here wolf!" "Don't let it get away!"
"I want the skin!", "Holy shit, that wolf is huge, take it
down!"
They were planning on killing her! Enraged,
she drew back, snarling and snapping at the pokes from the clubs and
pitchforks. She turned one way, then another, lashing out as first one
distracted her, and then another. She couldn't flee, they surrounded her,
Hurting her! Her forepaw caught a man across the chest, another she lashed out
at as he bent forward to poke her and grabbed him by his shirt and threw him!
Seeing a break in the men, she put her ears back against her head and darted
away! Keeping to the underbrush. "Don't you let that animal get
away!", "Kill it!" Shouts followed her as she ran, till they
faded away completely.
Only when
she was safe in her hidden cave, did she stop to rest. Her side hurt. turning
her head, she saw she was bleeding, and she reached to lick at her wound,
whining softly. She would heal up soon as she changed back, and she did so,
curling up behind a rock, trying not to let Hate and Rage rule her. Silent
tears drifted down her cheek unbidden as she stared out into the afternoons
light. She waited, giving the humans a few hours to clear out before she began
her way towards home again. Her running, for a while, was at an end it seemed.
She would fight for her home, and kill any who tried to stop her!
